I’ve been a bit quiet because I needed a break.

3pm on Day 1 of the holiday, I'm close to tears at the Dorchester Waitrose self-service. I can't remember what I was supposed to get and am so hungry I can't think because the campsite shop didn't stock any proper food. The triplets have had all the emergency supplies and snacks and are hot, tired and hungry.

To give some context, within the first hour of waking, Rafa had emptied the lodge’s kitchen cupboards, given the TV and windows a good whack and discovered the fire extinguisher.

When the triplets went to bed that night, I crawled into the hot tub, listened to the sounds of the forest, and had about 15 minutes of an actual relaxing holiday. I realised that I should take my own advice.

Expectations don’t help mums. Trying to make something what you thought it would or should be rather than accepting it for what it is is like pushing against the tide.
