Have yourself a Mum-Guilt-Free Christmas

It’s October 2022. I’m sitting in an armchair pumping (that’s the only time I get to sit down). Reflecting on another tough day with 3 month-old triplets. I’m shattered. I’ve been doing 24 feeds every 24 hours, I’m trying to breastfeed (and feeling guilty that it’s not going well) and there is never enough mummy to go around.

This was my breaking point. Mum-guilt came for me hard and told me I was letting my babies down. That it wasn’t fair on them and they deserve better. I played along for a few minutes until I felt so low and defeated. Then I squared up to mum guilt and showed it the door. It was a him or me situation and I knew I couldn’t let it be me. Three tiny lives were depending on me around the clock.

I can’t let October go by without acknowledging that turning point. Because that was the start of this movement.

But December is the month in which mums record the highest levels of stress and anxiety.

I’d wager mum-guilt spikes too. We’re overwhelmed by the pressure, expectation and looming Christmas deadline. It’s all on us.

Then we scroll through all the hallmark-perfect Christmas pics on Instagram with extravagant decorations/holidays/gifts and panic surges.

So this year, we’re taking back Christmas.

We’re going to get together on Thursday 21st November 7:30pm to make sure December is better this year. I cannot have another Christmas like last year. It took weeks to recover.
